Meet the Rochdale Masters; the town’s only rugby league team for over 35s targeting good physical and mental health

In 2021, Rochdale’s first rugby league team for those over the age of 35 began life, aiming to keep men fit, healthy and active both mentally and physically.

Founded by Carl Abraham, Rochdale Masters Rugby League compete in the RFL Masters Rugby League competition with their home base being Mayfield Sports Centre.

With participation numbers continually on the rise, the Club is looking to build on its momentum by developing what they offer its players, including enlisting sponsors to cover the costs of kit, travel and more.

Recruitment Solutions (NW) have partnered with the Club as the main sponsor, with the company’s logo taking pride of place on the front of the new shirts. The finance, accounts and office support recruiter will enter their 20th year in business next year, at the same time as moving to brand new offices, with a framed version of the new shirt so adorn the walls of the workplace in the newly renovated Spotland Bridge Mill.

Founder and coach of the Rochdale Masters Rugby League, Carl Abraham, presented that shirt to Joshua Hallett and Charlotte Hilton from the Recruitment Solutions (NW) team this week, as the Club also celebrated the opening of the new Rochdale Masters Club Shop.

Of the latest sponsorship into a Rochdale-based sports team, Gavin Reynolds, Director at Recruitment Solutions (NW), said:

“The Rochdale Masters Rugby League team is a fantastic initiative set up by Carl a couple of years ago which has gone from strength-to-strength in terms of the number of participants.

“This initiative is getting people out of the house and encouraging them to make and maintain friendships. There’s obviously the physical benefit of the sport, but perhaps more importantly there is the benefit there’s the mental health benefit too.

“I have seen first-hand the positive impact that this has had on the lives of a number of individuals who were perhaps not as active as they have been in earlier life, but now have a platform to do so.

“These types of initiatives all incur a cost – whether that’s kits, transport or anything else – so when Carl was looking for a sponsor this year, we were more than happy to put our name to this and support. Keep up the good work!”
