On Tuesday 16th June 2026, Bobbie Milton and Jade Shelmerdine from Recruitment Solutions NW visited The Sixth Form Bolton to deliver a live brief session to 24 students and 3 teachers.
The session was organised with the support of James Oldroyd, Head of Business at The Sixth Form Bolton, and brought together students including those studying Finance and Accounting. The Sixth Form Bolton is one of the few colleges to offer A Level Accounting, with students learning skills that can support future pathways into areas such as chartered accountancy, financial management, business accounts, economics and banking.
Recruitment Solutions NW is an independent recruitment business based in Rochdale, supporting clients and candidates across areas including finance, accounts and office support. Bobbie, Administration & Compliance Manager, and Jade, Associate Director, introduced the students to who Recruitment Solutions NW are, what the business does, and how recruitment can support both job seekers and employers in finding the right opportunities and people.
During the workshop, Bobbie and Jade spoke openly about the recruitment industry, future career routes and how students can begin preparing for the world of work. They also explained how Recruitment Solutions NW can help students in the future, including through CV advice, career guidance and support when looking for opportunities.
As part of the live brief, the students were challenged to create a Canva design based around Accounting, Finance or Recruitment Solutions. The task encouraged them to think creatively about branding, messaging, audience engagement and how to design a post that could work across a real website or social media platform. The brief asked students to create something clear, creative, useful and on-brand, with a strong hook, a clear message, a reason to care and a next step.
The standard of work produced was fantastic, with students creating a wide range of designs covering topics including career advice, job vacancies, recruitment, employability skills, finance roles and future opportunities. A winning design was selected, and this will be posted on Recruitment Solutions NW’s LinkedIn page, reaching an audience of over 8,000 followers.
The day was not only valuable for the students, but also highly insightful for Bobbie and Jade. During lunch, they admitted to feeling slightly nervous that some students may not return for the second half of the session. However, they were pleasantly surprised when two additional students joined after hearing positive feedback from their friends during the break.
The engagement continued right through to the end of the workshop. After the session finished, at least seven students stayed behind to ask questions, speak further with Bobbie and Jade, and request email addresses so they could send over their CVs for feedback, advice and support.
Feedback from the college was extremely positive. James Oldroyd said:
“Hi Bobbie, many thanks for coming in today. You and Jade were amazing. The students and teachers really enjoyed the session, gave fabulous feedback and have gained loads from it. Once again, many thanks, it’s really appreciated.”
Diane Nelson, one of the teachers, also shared:
“Thank you again for your time, the feedback from students was great. We hope to see you again next year.”
One student added:
“It was so nice meeting you today. Thank you for this opportunity.”
The session highlighted the importance of giving students real-world insight into business, recruitment and career pathways. It also gave them the chance to apply their creativity to a live brief with a genuine audience and outcome.
Bobbie and Jade both left the day feeling proud of the students, grateful for the opportunity and inspired by the level of enthusiasm in the room.
A huge thank you to The Sixth Form Bolton, James Oldroyd, Diane Nelson, the teaching team and all the students who took part. It was a brilliant day, and Recruitment Solutions NW are grateful to have been invited to support the next generation as they begin thinking about their future careers.
